“Active participation on LinkedIn is the best way to say, ‘Look at me!’ without saying ‘Look at me!”– Bobby Darnell, Principal of Construction Market Consultants

Aviation Student Aanchal setting up her Linkedin account

New to AvSoc this year is our Linkedin Workshop. With Linkedin being the ‘new’ way of being discovered by industry professionals, our workshop yielded a full classroom of eager students wanting to get a head start on their aviation careers.

Diligently, the Events Subcommittee (Calvin, Hugo & Victoria) and Events Coordinator (Annie) taught all students the basics of setting up their first Linkedin accounts. Seated in random small groups, students were offered the opportunity to network with other students from different years and classes. Networking also allowed all students to discover other students experiences working for companies such as Asiana, Dnata, Emirates, EVENT, IATA, Korean Air, Menzies Aviation, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Sydney Airport, Swissport & Westpac.

We were even lucky enough to have a panel lead by Aaron Fuller (Head of Experience at Qantas Frequent Flyer) and Daniel Youssef (Flight Dispatch Officer at Qantas). Absorbing the wisdom of the two panelist provided us with a gauge on how to enter the aviation industry using Linkedin as a tool to reinforce and support us during the recruitment process.
