UNSW AvSoc x TEQ Case Competition

New to AvSoc this year is our UNSW AvSoc x TEQ Case Competition, we are proud to partner with Tourism and Events Queensland to bring students an opportunity to work on realistic real life problems facing the tourism industry at this current point in time. The case competition was successfully held online on the 28th of May.

The Judge Panel of the Case Competition Consisted Of :

Diana Mulholland – Partnerships Specialist, Tourism and Events Queensland

Professor Gabriel Lodewijks – Head of School, UNSW School of Aviation

Dr Tay T.R. Koo – Senior Lecturer, UNSW School of Aviation

Annie Zhai – President, UNSW Aviation Society.

Prior to the competition, teams were given 2 workshops to familiarise themselves with the case competition, the tourism industry and other related topics such as marketing tactics. All teams were able to deliver high quality recovery plans for the Queensland tourism industry in the form of presentations. It was impressive to see the teams’ ability to give appreciation to the cultural, social and economic importance of the tourism industry. Feedbacks and comments were then given to each team regarding their proposed solutions. After a lot of consideration and careful judging, the winners and runner ups of the Case Competition were decided.

The 1st Place Winners:

  • Julien Curlier
  • Nikolaus Oliver
  • Muhammed Umair Ghansar
  • Alexander Kwai Wo Pang

The Runners-Up:

  • Matthew Yiu Shing-Fai
  • Justin Chau
  • Imelda Tsang
  • Raymond Wai Cheung, Ho

The UNSW Aviation Society would like to express our warmest gratitude to the judge panel for taking time out of their busy schedule and also Tourism and Events Queensland for their assistance and support in planning and running the case competition. We would also like to thank the participants for taking part in the competition, and once again, congratulations to the winning team and runners up. We hope the case competition was able to give students the opportunity to apply theories learnt in the classroom into real life scenarios, and at the same time broaden their knowledge.
