UNSW AvSoc & WSA Case Competition

UNSW Aviation Society & Western Sydney Airport (WSA) – Airport Planning Case Competition 2020

AvSoc is back with another case competition, and this time we partnered up with Western Sydney Airport (WSA), to present to you an Airport Planning Competition. The case competition presentation was held on the 11th of September and it was a great success!

The challenge for the teams were to develop a 10 MAP schedule for the Domestic and International aviation markets for the opening of WSA in 2026, and develop justification for their desired make-up of the airlines based on the schedule.

Given only one week to formulate their solutions to the issues, we were thoroughly impressed by the participants’ effort and abilities to collaborate virtually with their groupmates within an extremely tight time frame. After 7-days of intense analysis and brainstorming, six teams have come together to pitch their strategies in front of a panel of WSA judges followed by a Q&A session regarding their ideas and solutions.

We would like to thank all of the teams for participating in this case competition. All the teams did extremely well and came up with very interesting ideas. However, after much consideration from the judges, the first-place winners and runner-ups stood out due to their innovative and comprehensive solutions. We would like to congratulate:

The First Place Winners (Team 3):

  • Matthew Gibson
  • Chris Saintilan
  • Nick Waller
  • Will Boyce

The Runners-Up (Team 2):

  • Jack Littlechild
