The 41st edition of the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) was held on the 6th of June to the 9th of June, at the ICC Sydney. This annual tourism travel trade show is designed and delivered by Tourism Australia to provide a platform for the global tourism industry to exchange knowledge and develop invaluable rapport between Australian tourism operators and the global distribution network. Despite the challenges posed to the aviation industry, we saw a resilient, forward-looking community together reimagining the future of the aviation industry and reshaping a post-COVID travel environment.

UNSW Aviation students were given the opportunity to represent the UNSW School of Aviation as ambassadors, as part of the dedicated aviation program. Students helped to promote the Data Science Hackathon Competition on ‘Sustainable International Air Routes to Australia’, co-organised by the UNSW School of Aviation, Tourism Australia and Cirium.

All ATE delegates were invited to partake in the competition to determine the most sustainable route. Winners of the guessing competition were revealed on the 8th of June, and this was followed by an announcement of the winning teams, who each took home cash prizes and trophies awarded by aviation and travel industry executives. Congratulations to all winners!

The UNSW Aviation Society would like to thank Dr Tay Koo for his efforts in organising the competition and making this experience possible for the students. It was, indeed, a valuable opportunity for students to network and engage with distinguished professionals, who shared their views on their outlook on the industry and the future of aviation.
